Do gays have anything to do in Cyprus?

In June 2022, we went for a long weekend in Cyprus

We got there mainly because of the short distance from Tel Aviv (less than 40 minutes flight). So it is a close destination for us for a quick jump, but on the way, we discovered a lovely island; here is a summary of our experiences and also recommendations for gays who come to visit Cyprus.

Cyprus Airport

Cyprus has two main airports. One is in Larnaca and the other in Paphos. We arrived via Larnaca airport and managed to combine several destinations. The drive from Larnaca to Paphos takes about an hour and fifty, so Landing in Larnaca allowed us to connect Larnaca and Paphos. Those who want to be only in Paphos can land directly in Paphos and save the trip, or land in Paphos and go the opposite direction. Back from Paphos, we made a short stop in Limassol. The city has a beautiful coastline, and the town seems to be worth visiting for at least a night.

Recommendation for visitors to Cyprus – take a car

ou're driving on the left side of the road, but it won't stop you from renting a car. We made it a little easier by booking an automatic vehicle (the price differences were not high), and I must say that we got used to it relatively quickly. The general rule is to remember that the driver's side should always be bordering the traffic opposite.

We had a total of 6 nights on the island. Since we hadn't previously been to Paphos (yes, we had visited Larnaca, Ayia Napa, and Limassol before), we decided to take the first two days in the Larnaca area another two days in Paphos. Since our flight came and departed from Larnaca airport, we returned for the last night in Larnaca to make it easy for us to get up the following day for a morning flight (we still managed to be at work that day).

Are there any gay places to stay in Cyprus?

Although there is no GayResort in Cyprus (a shame), we found two places suitable for gays

Gay accommodation near Larnaca

A lovely resort owned by a British gay guy who recently built it. Three rental rooms in a Village close to Larnaca (12 minutes drive). The rooms with direct access from the outside are brand new, equipped with a coffee machine and fridge, a comfortable bed, a new shower, and an excellent addition of a courtyard with tanned beds and a jacuzzi. Suppose you stay there alone (like we were for the first two days), or while other gays are staying there, the place is also clothing optional. We enjoyed it there, there is a very fair fee drink in the minibar in the room, and you can also ask Mark, the host, for extra drinks for the garden area or the hot tub. We also sat in the hot tub in the evening, which was enjoyable by candlelight. The town has some excellent authentic restaurants, and we popped onto the Larnaca promenade in 12 minutes of driving. Also, the coastline is 5 minutes away. You can check the place at https://villaamourcyprus.com/. You can also see that all the recommendations on Tripadvisor gave that resort five stars.

(Unfortunately the place is closed)

Gay accommodation near Paphos

Also, in Paphos, we were looking for a place to stay suitable for gays, without families and children, and maybe even something more liberated, so we looked at MRBNB and found a room to rent in a gay guy's villa. We must point out that this was the first time we were staying in a house of something else and not renting the whole home, and we had some concerns before, in particular, that the bathroom was outside the room. Fortunately, the experience was excellent. Tomas lives with his dog in a fantastic villa with a view over all of Paphos made available to us a nice room with an exit to a small balcony. The bathroom was in the hallway but was only for the use of the two rooms for rent when the other room was not rented and therefore was only ours. We hardly heard or saw Tomas, and he didn't hear us either (we are also quiet guests). We enjoyed sitting in Tomas' beautiful pool and shaded seating area by the pool and taking some short trips around the neighborhood. So if you are around and looking for a place – try it.

Gay evening entertainment in Cyprus

In terms of evening entertainment, there are not many options in Cyprus, and even with them, we did not have much luck. There is a gay bar in Larnaca, but to our dismay, it was closed during the three evenings we were in the area (you should check its website first).

In Paphos, we did manage to get to the gay bar. It is a gay bar in a convenient location on one of the quiet streets in the city center. The cocktails are excellent at a fair price, and the owner is kind and inviting. Too bad there is no food except popcorn that you can get in abundance.

We also had some time in Paphos, so we traveled around the village area. We had a wine tasting at the winery and a short stop for a coffee in a lovely town. All were within a short driving distance from Thoma's villa.

In conclusion, we advise you that beyond getting to travel and know a new place - come and visit resort/home rentals of the community, especially in the "villa Amor," which is so unique. You can enjoy but also support the places of the community.
